You must be 18 to apply for a Firearms ID Card and 21 to obtain handgun permits.
Firearms Applications are now being processed electronically online, via the New Jersey State Police Firearms Application and Registration System (FARS).
At this time, Permit to Carry applications are not available in FARS and must be submitted using in paper form. See the "Permit to Carry" section below for instructions.
FARS provides access to the following applications:
- Initial Firearms Purchaser Identification Card - $50.00
- Replacement or Updated Firearms Purchaser ID Card - $50.00
- Permit to purchase a Handgun - $25.00 each

You will also need to enter the Woolwich Township Police Department’s

You will also need to enter the following personal information:
- Full Legal Name
- Social Security Number
- Drivers License Number
- State Bureau of Investigation Number (SBI #) (if applicable – returning firearms applicants)
- Valid phone numbers and email address for you
- Names, phone numbers, and valid email address of 2 personal references
After the final submission, print both the confirmation page and application at the end of the process. This is for quick reference in the event of any issues.
If approved, you will receive an email from the NJ State Police indicating the status of your application. This does not mean that your Firearm's ID Card and/or Permits are availble for pickup.
You will be contacted by the Woolwich Township Police Department to arrange making payment for your initial Firearms ID card (FID), and/or Pistol Purchase Permit(s). Your Firearm's ID Card and/or Permits wil not be issued until payment has been made.
We now accept online payments, through the Woolwich Township Payment Portal.
Permit to Carry
The Concealed Carry Permits service allows for online submission of both initial and renewal applications. Approved applications are due for renewal every two (2) years. Renewal applications
can be submitted up to four (4) months before the expiration date. Concealed Carry Permit applicants need to have been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in New Jersey and assigned an SBI
number before they can apply for a Concealed Carry Permit. If you have never been fingerprinted for firearms purposes in New Jersey before, start with an application for an Initial Firearms

The following instructions are the same for initial and renewal applications for a Permit to Carry a handgun.
The following items are needed to finalize your application:
- Money Order, payable to the "Township of Woolwich", or payment through the Woolwich Township Payment Portal, in the amount of $150.00
- Completed PTC Safe Handling and Proficiency Certificate (Form Below)
